Journey Behind the Coffee

About the Producer/Farm
This coffee is cultivated at La Villa, a farm located in San Jose de Isnos, Colombia, under the care of Juan Darío Gómez. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in agriculture, Juan was introduced to coffee at a young age, helping with harvesting and processing from early childhood. Inspired by his father, Don Bautista—the farm's founder—Juan pursued formal training in agricultural production at SENA, Colombia’s renowned vocational education center.
Since 2017, Juan has focused his efforts on specialty coffee, applying organic farming methods and exploring different processing techniques. His commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of his work—from selective harvesting to mastering fermentation techniques in both natural and washed processes.
At 1,720 meters above sea level, La Villa cultivates exceptional Gesha variety coffee. The coffee trees, now about six years old, thrive in this high-altitude environment, developing refined sweetness and complexity under Juan’s careful stewardship.

Region / Terroir
The story of La Villa begins with Juan's father, who first settled on the land in 1965. Initially, cultivating coffee was discouraged in the region by Indigenous communities, leading early crops to be grown discreetly among other plants. By the 1970s, coffee slowly gained acceptance, and in 2005, a major turning point came when the farm, supported by a cooperative, won a local contest. The prize provided critical investment for improving farming practices and coffee quality.
Today, La Villa produces 90% of its coffee directly on-site, using a range of thoughtful methods that emphasize the farm’s connection to tradition and innovation. Thanks to its rich history, fertile land, and high-altitude climate, coffee from La Villa offers a uniquely vibrant and nuanced profile, carrying forward a legacy built on resilience, passion, and progress.
