Journey Behind the Coffee

About the Producer/Farm
This coffee comes from the Biru Bekele Washing Station, located in the Chito district of Ethiopia’s Oromia region. Established in 2019, the station is operated by Biru Bekele, a producer with nearly two decades of hands-on experience in coffee farming. Over the years, he has earned a strong reputation for quality and consistency, working closely with smallholder farmers in the area.
At the station, Biru and his team apply innovative fermentation techniques, including the use of specialized yeast to develop the coffee’s complexity. Their approach blends deep local knowledge with thoughtful experimentation, resulting in a cup that speaks to both tradition and progress.

Region / Terroir
Grown at an altitude of 1,904 meters, this coffee thrives in the legendary region of Yirgacheffe—a name long associated with Ethiopia’s finest coffees. The high elevation, nutrient-rich soil, and cool climate allow the cherries to mature slowly, enhancing their natural sweetness and aromatic depth.
Yirgacheffe is known for producing vibrant, floral coffees with citrus undertones, and this lot is no exception. Expect notes of lemon, lemongrass, and juicy red fruits, with a refined acidity and a clean, medium body. Harvested during Ethiopia’s peak season from November to January, this coffee reflects the richness of its origin and the care of the people behind it.
