Journey Behind the Coffee

About the Producer/Farm
This coffee is sourced from the Marua Cooperative, located in Kenya’s fertile Central region. The cooperative brings together hundreds of smallholder farmers, many of whom carefully manage small family plots, typically with a few hundred coffee trees each.
The farmers of Marua follow time-honored agricultural practices, nurturing high-quality Arabica varieties under the shade of native trees and amidst a diverse landscape that includes maize, macadamia, and dairy farming. After selective handpicking, the coffee cherries are meticulously fully washed—a process that enhances clarity and vibrancy in the final cup. Fresh water from nearby mountain streams, coupled with expert processing, brings out the exceptional character for which Kenyan coffees are celebrated.

Region / Terroir
Grown at elevations ranging from 1,800 to 1,950 meters above sea level, this coffee benefits from the rich volcanic soils and cool climate of Kenya’s Central Highlands. The unique conditions of this region—high altitude, consistent rainfall, and fertile ground—allow the cherries to mature slowly, concentrating sweetness and complexity.
The resulting cup is vivid and expressive, with notes of black currant, blood orange, and hibiscus, complemented by a full body, vibrant stone fruit-like acidity, and a pleasant, fruit-toned finish. Balanced yet lively, this coffee is a shining example of the depth and richness that Kenya’s top AA lots, like those from Marua, are known for.
